Mass Media’s Effect on Black Women
Start Date: 3/24/2017Start Time: 12:00 PM
End Date: 3/24/2017End Time: 2:00 PM
Event Description

Angry black woman. Baby momma. Black Barbie. Gold-digger. Unhealthy and overweight. Do you recognize any of these labels? In the media today negative imagery of black women appears twice as often as positive depictions. Black women’s progress in our society collides with these media stereotypes. This workshop will explore the duality of combating racism and sexism in our culture today. Come discuss how black women see themselves and contrast that with how they are depicted in the media.
